The type of trauma informed yoga I facilitate (TCTSY) is on a one to one basis, and it requires no prior yoga experience.
This is a yoga-based practice, it is not therapy and you will not be asked to share your trauma history or to process your memories.
Regaining a felt sense of your body may at times reawaken difficult sensations or memories, which you may need to verbalise with a psychotherapist or similar.
That is why a condition to work with me is that you have a support network to help you process, in a cognitive and verbal way, any difficult reaction that may be triggered during your practice.
Initial Enquiry
After you contact me, I will organise a Zoom/Teams half-hour meeting, where we can discuss whether trauma-informed yoga is the right fit for you.
This will be free of charge and it will also give you a chance to see if you want to work with me.
After the initial enquiry you and I can take some time to reflect whether we think and feel that we will be a good ‘fit’.
If working together is not possible, I will try best I can to suggest alternative TCTSY yoga practitioners.
The Assessment Process
If you and I choose to go ahead, I will email you an Assessment & Consent form (password protected), which I will kindly ask you to return before we meet for an assessment.
The form includes questions designed to help us reflect on what yoga practices might be ok for you and how we might best use them. The Assessment & Consent is informed by the code of conduct and ethical guidelines underpinning my TCTSY-Facilitator role.
We then book in an assessment on Zoom/Teams. It may last between 1 or 2 hours, and it is priced at £100.
During the assessment I will explain how trauma-informed yoga (TCTSY) works. I might demonstrate a yoga practice, and you can either watch or try some of the yoga forms with me. You won’t need any special equipment or any special clothes. I’m generally dressed in loose, comfortable trousers and a large top. I choose to be barefoot but you do not have to.
During the allotted time you can ask as many questions as you wish; if you have more questions, you can also reach out via email. I will also ask you some questions, so we can co-create and co-design a yoga practice together, to enable opportunities for you to be in charge of yourself based on a felt sense of your own body. TCTSY is your practice, a safe space co-designed by you, which I can help facilitate, if you so wish. At this stage you can decide whether it is a good time to start (or if maybe you need more time); if you choose to start, you and I can book in some dates – I usually start with 6 weekly meetings.
During the assessment I will take some note on the Assessment & Consent form you sent me. I’ll send you a copy of my form after the assessment so that you can add in any comments or revisions. Once we’re both happy with it, we will both digitally sign & date the form.
